Privacy

What Carefree Blues does with your data, in plain words. Last updated .

The short version

What stays in your browser

If you use the light/dark switch, the site saves your choice in your browser’s local storage (under the name “theme”). It stays on your device and is never sent to us; clearing your site data removes it. Times are converted to your own time zone in your browser, and that is not sent anywhere either.

What our host records

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel records each request in server logs: your IP address, your browser’s user agent, the time and the address requested. These exist for security and to run the site. How long Vercel keeps them is Vercel’s own setting, not one we choose; see Vercel’s privacy notice.

The site’s database holds the headlines and posts shown here. It holds nothing about visitors.

Pictures from other servers

Thumbnails and post pictures are not copied to our servers. Your browser fetches each one from the publisher’s or platform’s own server (a news site’s image host, YouTube’s, and so on). Those servers can see your IP address, your browser details and that the request came from this site, and they may log it. We cannot control what they keep.

Other platforms, only when you ask

Opening a video (YouTube, or a video post on X or Instagram), or pressing “Show original post”, loads that platform’s own player or script: YouTube through its privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com address, X, Instagram or Reddit. They can then set their own cookies, see your IP address and see what you do in their player, under their own policies:

Photo and text posts open as plain text and a picture first. Links to publishers and posts open in a new tab, on their site, under their policy.

Selling and sharing

We do not sell visitor data or use it for advertising or profiling. The only companies that see anything about your visit are our host, the servers that supply pictures and, if you ask for them, the platforms above.

If you email us, we receive your address and what you write, and use them only to deal with your message.

Your rights and questions

If you are in the UK or EU you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. There are no accounts here, so what we can hold about you is whatever you have emailed us; the server logs are Vercel’s. Write to comms@curiouscats.ai. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK, or to your local data protection authority.

The site is run by CuriousCats.ai.

Changes

If analytics, advertising or anything else that collects data about visitors is ever added, this page will be updated before it goes live, and the date above will change.
